Just because I can

Sometimes it is said,  'curiosity killed the cat' I would also content the curiosity might well also kill the Gardner some day.

Sometimes I grow stuff just to see what it's like, or because someone said, "you can grow anything" or "can you grow such-and-such".  Ego gets the better of me and I think, what the hell, I'll have a go.

Horseradish, Wasabi and Artichokes are all examples of things I've grown without much thought. I was very young and couldn't much remember but I do recall Dad growing artichokes on the farm for the pigs, not that my memory is clear enough to picture the actual plants. After moving to the city and coming across artichokes in the fancy delis and restaurants I decided I'd grow some on my hobby farm, maybe put them on pizza. I nurtured then into marvellous big plants, they grew and grew and had wonderful flowers, beautiful actually. The flowers died of and I dug them up looking for the roots. I had figured if they were pig food on Dad's farm they must have editable roots.  No of course not, you eat the bloody flower bud.

So I'm not experimenting anymore and putting my ego away and only growing what I know and eat -

NEVER
