I'm a One Man Band

Often - no,  most often farming life is something you do by yourself. You're out in the paddock working away and there are tasks that just need doing. Sure, to would be easy to just call in a contractor to do certain tasks or you could buy the appropriate machinery but I find joy and satisfaction of just finding a way.

A corner post, strainer post or in this case my front gate post is a big chunk mod Australian hardwood that weighs around 110 to 120kg's. Now I'm all of 82kg's ringing wet and while I can carry my own weight on my shoulder these big buggers are just too much for me to lift. Ive devised my own method for getting old ones out of the ground and for dropping the new ones in the re-doug holes.

If I get this process wrong I'm pretty much stuffed. I have to get the rural fencing supplier to lift the post onto my ute and position it the right way round (bigger end hanging off the back) and put it on the side which I'll be able to back the ute over the hole. You can watch the rest here but needless to say if I get the process wrong and that post comes off the ute and doesn't go into the hole and hits the ground I'm done for. There is no way I can get one of these back upright by myself and I don't own a tractor. Fingers crossed the only one I dropped was a practice post which I could lift one end of and using a series of milk crates as steps I was able to gradually it it back upright.
