Quick and effective tomato trellis

I've said it before and will say it again - use what you can get for free.  This tomato tresses I came up with when I faint some PVC pipe in the bush when I purchased this abandoned property. This block I have was the last part of a 100 acre ginger farm many years ago and I still find some of their irrigation pipes some 20 years later.

Anyway I use 2 start pickets, about 30 cm long and put one either side of my garden bed, that means they are about 2 meters apart but you can set your own distance. Then I just cut a piece off the pipe and bend it over the bed and plug each end over the star picket. To be technical you can change the height of the trellis depending on the type of tomato and how vigorous they grow.

For me in the sub tropics where there is a continual stream of hot humid days I've learned not to bunch any vegetable together especially tomatoes. With the amount of water I put on to just keep things alive the moisture builds up and block spot becomes rampant and all sorts of insects like the shade in the moist sugarcane hay covering the beds. Separating the tomatoes and spreading out the vine allows air to circulate and you can spot any problems or insects before they get going. This summer using this method I've not used a drop of any spray on the tomatoes and no grubs have got into the fruit - touch wood.

Here is the video on how I do it.
