Spring of Plenty

This spring (Australia) we have had just over 600mm of rain through October and another 20mm now in November so far and its only the 11th.  Thats more than 24 inches of water over everything. The best spring rains since I've been on the farm which is just 5 years but the old timers say its  one of the best on record for the area. It seems the last 2 years which have been very dry have resulted in the plants becoming tough and their roots growing down more so than normal to find water where their above ground component didn't seem to grow at all. Now with the rain and the soil being much wetter everything is flying.  Plants I was having little success with have just taken off and are producing meal after meal. The little creek is flowing continually now and the sounds of running water are so relaxing.
Asparagus is a funny thing and really does take patience. You plant it and it takes a year to get going. Then you let some shoots grow into ferns so the root ball under the ground expands, its like a real test to one's patience.  But 3 years down the track my little patch which is about 1 meter square can produce a real a day for 2 people. Bananas which everyone said wouldn't grow here because it was too cold have developed a buch where I planted them in a sheltered spot. Onions which I also struggled with are now plump and fat and bigger than tennis balls.
